Astigmatism is an eye alteration wherein there is an abnormal curvature of the eye lens. Usually, the traditional way to correct astigmatism is to have eyeglasses. In our family with 7 members, two of us have astigmatism, my brother and I. My brother’s astigmatism was detected earlier than mine. And since he already has altered vision, meaning to say his vision is not 20/20 anymore- it just made the situation worst. And since Lasik Laser eye surgery was not that prominent and known, our parents brought him to an Ophthalmologist and then advised to wear a corrective eyeglass.
He had to wear the eyeglass all the time unless washing his face and sleeping. A year or two had passed and yet his vision did not improve and he still has astigmatism. And since the problem is not astigmatism alone, his eye grade changes and he have to renew his eyeglass. Unfortunately, the maintenance is quite expensive and is continuous.
As for my case, I have a 20/20 and 20/25 vision and is positive for astigmatism too. Like my brother I had to wear corrective lenses too and since I was so not used to wearing something for my eye, I often don’t wear it and more often misplaced it. It was very hard and annoying I thought.
It was in the late part of 2008 that Lasik Eye Surgery was introduce by a family friend. He said it was only a minor surgery and that the recovery from it was fast and that he was able to see its effect and the improvement it has done to his sister. We are first doubtful and thought it was very invasive but then my brother is very eager to try it. He was 22 when he undergone the surgery.
It was his left eye that was operated first. My brother said there was no pain at all. He only felt some sort of pressure to his eye and of course the dryness but there is no significant pain, per se. The whole procedure took only 14 minutes and even after that, my brother did not complain of any pain or halos or blurring of vision at all. He was prescribed antibiotics and eye drops to help maintain the wetness of the operated eye. My brother was advised to wear an eye shield especially at night, avoid eating seafood for at least two weeks and avoid things that might harm the operated eye. Only a few days after the surgery, my brother’s vision improved and he doesn’t wear his eyeglasses anymore. A week after, his left eye vision were 20/15- almost normal.
The LASIK Laser Eye Surgery is a very brilliant option for my brother and for those who have eye problems. It made possible the things we thought were impossible. My brother, until now, doesn’t have to wear eyeglasses. It did not only treat his astigmatism but also improved his vision all-in-all. Hopefully at the end of this year he will have the operation for his right eye and we are looking forward to another excellent result. We highly recommend Lasik Eye Surgery.
